Editor’s Note: Inspired by our founder Ali Jarvis’ “lemon” dog, Luc, this series is dedicated to local, special-needs pups who are looking for loving furever homes. Please consider sharing this post — you might help Isabelle from Second Chance Animal Rescue find hers!
______________
Name: Isabelle
Breed: Schnauzer/Poodle mix
Age: 12 years
Gender: Female, spayed
Size/Weight: 16 lbs
Time in Foster: 2 months
Foster’s Name: Cindy

______________
SWD: Look at that perky expression — Isabelle looks like she’s up for anything!
SC: Isabelle is a one-of-a-kind dog — we call her Miss Personality! She’s a spunky gal, affectionate and well-behaved. Isabelle is a smart pup, too — she’s a fast learner and seeks approval. In her foster home, she initiated bonding with each family member, one-on-one and eye-to-eye.
SWD: Such a honey! What are her favorite activities?
SC: Isabelle loves chasing and pouncing on tennis balls, chewing on hard bones, and gazing out the windows, watching the world go by. Nothing makes her happier than to be outside exploring, though, and this old girl is ready for a walk anytime you are. She can go three miles and still have energy to spare. If you didn’t know Isabelle was 12, you’d think she was a pup.
SWD: What’s Miss Isabelle’s special need?
CSR: When she came to Second Chance, Isabelle needed surgery to remove bladder stones, so she will need to be on a veterinarian prescription diet to reduce the risk of recurrence. Isabelle takes potassium citrate every day to regulate her urine pH, and will also need a urinalysis 3-4 times a year. Like any senior, she’ll need diligent dental care — Isabelle had several teeth pulled after arriving at the shelter, and she really wants to keep the rest of them!
SWD: What would make an ideal home for this happy girl?
CSR: Isabelle would do best in a family where people are either around throughout the day or come home frequently. Her exuberance makes her a better fit for families with older kids (10 – 12 and up). Isabelle is also happy to hang with other dogs and cats. During the day, she has been left up to 6 hours with the other dogs in the run of the home. She is kenneled during the night in her foster home but would prefer to cozy up under the covers with a family member. So if you’re a fan of a sharing your bed with a soft, warm snugglebug…
