Special Dog Seeks Special Home: Max the Collie Mix

Editor’s Note: Inspired by our founder Ali Jarvis’ “lemon” dog, Luc, this series is dedicated to local, special-needs pups who are looking for loving furever homes. Please consider sharing this post — you might help Max from Coco’s Heart Dog Rescue find his!

SWD: Max looks like one happy fella! Tell us about this smiley guy.

CH: Max is one of the most friendly and easy-going dogs you’ll ever meet. He’s affectionate and talkative — a neighborhood favorite! And he grins from ear to ear when people stop by to give him a little lovin’.

SWD: And what else does Mr. Laid-Back like?

CH: If he’s not getting a scratch or rub, Max is quite content to find a soft spot to relax near his people. He occasionally likes to chew on Kongs and other toys, but he doesn’t require a ton of things to keep him busy. He’s just easy!

SWD: What is his special need?

CH: A few years ago Max lost one of his legs, but gets around just fine on three! He prefers minimal stairs and shorter walks, but he’s been know to chase a squirrel or two when he’s feeling frisky. Sometimes he’ll even run along the fenceline, racing loud vehicles.

SWD: What did Max do the last time he brought a smile to your face?

CH: He recently met a baby and he was so sweet as he sniffed her, then gently kissed her good-bye.

SWD: Awwww! So he’s good with the young ‘uns. What would make an ideal home for Max?

CH: Max would prefer a quieter home, but would be happy around children as long as the kids are a little older and respectful of his age and low-key personality. He’d enjoy the attention and snuggling! Another smaller dog or cat would be fine — he completely ignores my kitty, which essentially means they get along. Max would appreciate having minimal steps to climb, and a fence-in yard, due to the occasional need for a small-animal chase. Once he’s found his forever home, Mellow Max will feel like part of that lucky family in minutes.
