Rambo is a 1 year old male Rottweiler Cross. Rambo has not been given the best start in life, abandoned to the streets by the owners he loved and was loyal too because he was no longer a puppy. This is the way in Croatia where Rambo originates from. He then was caught by the dog catchers and this poor lad is now on death row. Rambo will be transported to a UK foster at the end of November, however what we are hoping for is for an adopter to step forward as this will allow Rambo to go straight to his forever home and then that foster placement can be filled with another dog who needs help, effectively the adoption of Rambo will save two lives.
Rambo is human Friendly, adores interaction and fuss time, kid friendly but because he is a big strong dopey dollop we advise older children to be in the home. He is cat friendly and dog friendly. Rambo is a wonderful character, his only failing and this is not his fault, is his size and strength. When he plays and is jumping around he is acting like an overgrown tank size puppy. So though he is absolutely wonderful, so sloppy and silly he normally gets the blame if another dog is bowled over by him in play etc. He is by nature a gentle dog, but during playtime he gets over zealous and does not realise when he has sat on a smaller dog that he is squashing it. We did say he was a dopey dollop didn’t we!! He has shown no signs of aggression in anyway towards any of the 70 dogs in the shelter and was more interested in washing the shelter cats ears than anything else. He adores human company and interaction particularly if he already knows and trusts you.
He is a quiet and well behaved dog in the shelter, but as we have said he is a strong and playful boy who has not quite learned all about doggy manners and so he is kept separate when no staff or volunteers around from the other dogs, more so for his own safety as he just doesn’t understand why other dogs get mad at him if he knocks them over during play. As with all dogs he needs stimulus and he is a very clever dog so requires mental stimulation as well as exercise and food. Rambo reacts very well to reward training and kind words. In fact he revels in being made a fuss of, his coat being groomed etc he goes all floppy and silly like a puppy.
Rambo has a very good recall, moderate energy unless in playful mode then he just acts silly, walks very well on the lead, reward training works very well, understands basic commands such as Sit, stay, get down etc, very quick learner and eager to please, and does not pull on the lead and matches his human walker until something catches his eye but is quick to control and get back in line. Rambo loves being made a fuss of and all the attention that entails, this lad does not realise his own size or strength and though mentally he acts like a soppy puppy, his body is that of a very strong dog. Though is adorable to watch Rambo flouncing around like a fairy , to smaller dogs or smaller humans this is like a steam train heading towards them and sparks can fly, initiated by the smaller dogs.
Rambo’s perfect home would be in a family where can interact with different members of the house Also to have a friendly equal sized or medium sized doggy friend to keep him company and for playtime. He is so clever and smart and adores playing chase with the other shelter dogs. he really is a real character and will make a family so very happy. Needs to be given a little time to settle and know that he can trust his new family. Once this has happened he will be your best and funniest friend for life. A family that is experienced and use to the strength of Bull Breeds, who encourage through kindness and reward training a dog like Rambo to learn proper doggy manners. He will need interaction so a family who can spend lots of time with him, taking him on walks, playing and generally giving him as much love as possible will suit Rambo down to the ground.
Rambo is fully Defra Compliant for travel, fully Vaccinated, microchipped, castrated, vet checked and dewormed, deflead and has Full EU Pet Passport, comes with rescue back up for life, 4 weeks free pet insurance(triggered by adopter when they home) and free automatic microchip registration (Upon completion of adoption).
