10 Minnesota Dogs Coming Home for the Very First Time

It’s true what they say: every dog has its (first) day. We recently put out a call for photos and stories of the day you brought your hound home, and the responses made our hearts wag. Whether your dogs were eight weeks or eight years old when they came through your doors and into your hearts, it’s clear that they were family from the very first day.

1. Some weren’t quite sure what to make of their new digs:

2. While others, like Macy, settled in right away.

3. Some didn’t have to travel far to make it into your arms (this sweet snuggler was adopted from the Animal Humane Society):

4. While others endured long journeys to make it home. (Emma Jean flew here all the way from Oklahoma. “You want to send me WHERE for adoption? I’m all ears!”)

5. Some spent the first few days earning their names. Linda Stello explains, “On his first day home, Shadow didn’t have a name yet…we called him Puppy Bunny Rabbit for almost two weeks until it became clear that his favorite pastime was following his new big brother around.”

He did eventually grow into those ears:

6. Some were unsure of their new roommates:

7. While others, like Mochi, instantly became inseparable BFFs with their roommates:

8. And others…well, others ate their roommates. (Looking at you here, Tink!)

9. Some couldn’t leave their friends behind. Lindsay Kummet recounts, “This is Finn and his brother their first night up from Missouri after six months in a kennel. They couldn’t snuggle with their cones on, but they sure tried!”

10. And some brought their whole families. Amanda Maass writes, “Last November we fostered this little family. All the babies were adopted, but the mama never left. We love our Kuda Lou so much!”
