This poor young dog was abandoned to the streets when only a small pup. She could not play, have fun or enjoy life as others pups safe with their families could, poor Johanna had to find food, water, shelter, run from larger stronger and aggressive dogs and of course from the abusers that there are many of in Romania the country where she was born. Life then got worse when she was caught by the Romanian dog catchers and was thrown in the public shelter which is hell on earth for dogs. Thankfully a wonderful rescuer who is part of our charities network spotted her and took her out of there, placed her in foster until we were able to find a safe foster space for her here in the UK.
Johanna is a very happy , friendly and gentle girl. Very stable and calm natured who adores human company. Brilliant with kids and all humans she meets though she can be a little cautious more around men than women but once she learns that they mean no harm she is perfectly fine. She is dog friendly and gets along with all she meets, we would however advise against a home that has cats as the one thing she reacts to when out and about is when she spies a cat. Other than that this wonderful super girl really does not have any other dislikes apart from the darkness, she can be a little more nervous and clingy in the dark but that is quite normal in many dogs. Though if you want to make Johanna to forget her fears or distract her you can always give her what she loves, that is a marrowbone which she will carry round and chew on throughout the day.
Johanna is absolutely perfect in the home, she is quiet, clean, well behaved, sleeps through the night without any problems, is crate trained and really is the most perfect young lady.Totally non destructive at all in the home and in the time she has been in foster, only the odd sock has become her victim. This is a god marker of how good she is and will be in her future forever home. Johanna loves being out and about and meeting other dogs for playtime. She is much better and feels more secure when she is walked on a harness and happily trots around with this attached to a long lead. Walks perfectly, no silliness and is wonderful in every way. Johannas is very quick to learn and can be easily trained out of bad habits with positive reward training as she is very food orientated.
The only thing that she is reactive to when out and about is cats, and for this reason we advise against a home that has cats, just in case. This is something that needs to be taken into account if taking Johanna to an area to let her off the lead, recall must be worked on first and even then care needs to be taken that she does not become distracted and run off chasing a cat or squirrel she has spied. Totally fine in the car, no travel sickness and as long as she is with her human , she is perfectly happy to take in the sights and enjoy the ride. Johanna being a shepherd cross needs mental and physical exercise to keep her on her toes but because she is a cross breed she is of moderate energy so three good walks a day seem to suit her fine.
Socialization and exposure to new experiences is very important for Johanna to thrive and learn to trust the world around her. She is not a nervous dog but been through so much as a pup she needs a little convincing very now and than that the world is not always a scary place as it once was for her. So meeting new people and other dogs in a controlled manner will do her the world of good as mentioned above she is far better on the harness than she is on a lead and collar, so would advise for any future adopter to apply the same to make the whole walking experience less stressful for both Johanna and the adopter. Ideally Johanna’s forever home would be a person/family that are quite active but also like to chill out at home and enjoy the whole family experience. Preferable a family where at least one person in the home spends much of their time at home, or is able to take Johanna with them. She is not a barky dog when left alone by any mans in fact she is very good. But for a dog like Johanna when she bonds with a human it would be cruel if she was left alone for long periods of time.
If there are children in the family we would advise they be around 7 or upwards, as she is absolutely fantastic with the fosters son and get along perfectly fine with him.
Johanna is microchipped, fully vaccinated (Inc Anti rabies), spayed, dewormed, deflead, vet checked, DEFRA compliant, has her own EU Passport, comes with 4 weeks free pet insurance (adopter has to ring and trigger this with Pet Plan when they get her home), free microchip registration upon completion of adoption.
